The Horned Dorset Primavera Hotel has a rich history that began with a search in the early eighties, by the current owners, for a perfect southern location in the Caribbean. The owners had done well during the summers with a small hotel in New York and were ready to develop a luxury hotel in the tropics.

They visited a variety of locations throughout dozens of islands but when visiting Puerto Rico, they quickly fell in love with the kindness and generosity of its people. So here the search began for a location to establish a small luxury hotel. In the eighties, Dorado was the only luxurious hotel in operation on the island.

Soon they discovered this small guest house with three acres of oceanfront property. It had been built and owned by a Hungarian Scientist and his Czechoslovakian wife, from the University of Puerto Rico in Mayaguez. The guest house consisted of three hillside buildings, two oceanfront houses and an unfinished concrete building atop the original railroad sea walk.

After a year of negotiations with the Departmento de Recursos Naturales, they received permission to build up and back from the existing structures. The hotel opened Christmas of 1987, with eighteen rooms, a hotel lobby and a bar. Ten year later a free standing house, Casa Escondida, was built in the neo-Spanish revival style.

In 2007 the hotel was reconstructed into sixteen luxurious condominiums to be privately owned and to be used as hotel space for daily rentals.
